Construction is a potentially high hazard industry for those who work in it, with falls at the top of the hazards list. In fact, falls are the most frequent cause of fatalities at construction sites and annually account for one of every three construction-related deaths. Although there are commonly available methods for preventing falls, the number of construction workers who fall to their deaths has increased in recent years. According to preliminary 2007 fatality data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there were at least 442 construction worker fatalities during 2007 as a result of falls. Due to this high injury rate, the legislature in New York has enacted special laws to protect those most at risk.
Our firm has handled many cases in which workers were injured in construction accidents. In fact, our firm obtained one of the largest personal injury appellate verdicts ever achieved in Western New York ($21,986,586.00) for a client who was injured in a fall on the job site.* We have represented our clients at the trial, appellate court and Court of Appeals (New York’s highest court) level.
Through our experience we have come to understand the difficulties and dangers faced by those who work in the construction industry on a day to day basis.
